What is Therapeutic Massage?
People are complicated. Every-body has different needs, at different times. Chronic pain and illness, disruptions to the nervous system, past or current trauma, acute injury and stress are just some of the issues clients present with. Therapeutic massage sessions consider all of these things and together, we come up with a plan on how best to address these concerns during your appointment. This is not cookie cutter massage – each appointment is tailored to what you need, on that day, for that session.
Drawing on over two decades of experience as a bodyworker, approaches to the session may include classic Swedish Massage strokes to increase circulation and reduce anxiety, Deep Tissue techniques, such as trigger point therapy and myofascial release, to break up adhesions and address muscle tone and fascial/connective tissue restrictions. Reiki energy healing, craniosacral or shiatsu meridian therapy at the end of a session can help regulate the nervous system and promote systemic balance.
Therapeutic Massage sessions can work the whole body or be a targeted session that addresses a specific concern, such as lower back and hip pain. The most important aspect during your session is that your requests and concerns, as the client, are heard and addressed. The job of the therapist is to come at a problem from multiple angles and with creative, informed solutions to deliver the best possible outcome.
